THE ITCH
18″ X 24″
ACRYLIC AND OIL ON CANVAS
This piece is about the things we reach for when something inside us refuses to be still.
A cigarette.
A glass of wine.
A distraction.
A ritual.
A person.
A thought we keep returning to.
We all have our ways of scratching the itch.
Sometimes the vice itself isn’t really what we want. It’s the moment of relief it promises. That brief feeling that something has been answered, quieted, satisfied.
But the strange thing about an itch is that scratching it rarely makes it disappear. It only teaches us to reach for it again.
Maybe that’s part of being human. Living somewhere between desire and restraint, comfort and consequence, knowing when to hold on and when to sit with the discomfort of letting go.
The cigarette and the wine are only symbols.
The real vice is whatever you saw in them.
